Unfortunately, the Werner comics have also failed to develop in formal terms. The drawings may have become ever smoother, more appealing and more colourful, but it was precisely the delicate yet expansive style of the early years, with its chaotic mixture of empty spaces, wild hatching and manic-obsessive attention to detail, that was so unusual and attractive at that time.
