Since the beginning and middle of the 1990's general director Klaus Zehelein and his co-general-director Pamela Rosenberg (who in the meantime has been working as general director at the San Francisco Opera, but will not renew her contract after 2006) have succeeded in realising, even against the initial resistance of the old subscribers, an aesthetic concept which is not oriented to the old tried-and-true model of famous and expensive jet-set artists but, quite to the contrary, fosters the new generation of artists and (a very essential point) assigns a leading role to dramaturgy.
