Nachdem es das Ausbildungsprogramm für professionelle Tänzer wegen gekürzter öffentlicher Zuschüsse 2001 hat einstellen müssen, versucht das tanzhaus nrw vornehmlich durch Eigenproduktionen oder ein "artist in residence"-Programm Strukturarbeit zu leisten. [G]

Neben der kaum zu überschätzenden Bedeutung, die das Angebot für die Popularisierung des Tanzes hat, erwirtschaftet das tanzhaus nrw mit den Kursgebühren der wöchentlich mehr als 2000 Teilnehmer gut ein Drittel seines im letzten Jahr durch Kürzung öffentlicher Mittel erstmals reduzierten Etats von drei Millionen Euro. The increasing importance of the tanzhaus nrw, both nationally and internationally, is illustrated by the fact that in 2004 it was responsible for the organisation of the remodelled Tanzplattform Deutschland - the house's programme director Stefan Schwarz, as one of three jury members, shared responsibility for the selection of the programme - but also by the fact that the German Producer Prize for Choreography, one of the most highly endowed awards for the promotion of contemporary dance, is now based in Düsseldorf.

Production centres such as the Choreographisches Zentrum PACT Zollverein in Essen, the Tanzhaus in Düsseldorf, North-Rhine Westphalia, the Kampnagel Fabrik in Hamburg, the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt, the Tanzwerkstatt Europa in Munich and the Hebbel am Ufer (HAU) in Berlin with their excellent infrastructure consistently offer foreign artists residencies to develop new works or invite them to show their productions in the regular programme.

Vor zwei Jahren trennte Buroch sich von seiner künstlerischen Leiterin Christine Peters, der damals prophezeite Niedergang blieb aus: Der Mousonturm ist auch heute noch hervorragend mit Produktionsstätten wie dem vooruit in Gent, dem tanzhaus nrw oder dem Hebbel am Ufer vernetzt, Künstler und Publikum suchen das Haus nach wie vor. When Buroch separated from his artistic director Christine Peters two years ago, the forecasted demise of the venue never happened. The Mousonturm is still strongly networked with production sites such as vooruit in Gent, tanzhaus nrw and Hebbel am Ufer and remains much sought-after by artists and audiences alike.
