Die deutschen Nachkriegsfilme, auf die verwiesen wird - Die Blechtrommel (1978), Die Ehe der Maria Braun (1978) und Lili Marleen (1980) - zeigen, dass die filmische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg nie abriss. Durch die vielen filmisch umgesetzten Geschichten über die Kriegszeit bekunden die Filmemacher deutlich, dass sie das große Thema der "Wundnarbe ihrer Nation" nie ausblenden. [G]

Starting with newer films dealing with WWII-related topics such as The Tin Drum (1979), The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979) and Lili Marleen (1981), there has been a constant stream of films relating to WWII, showing that German film makers have not avoided this major topic dealing with their 'national scar'.
