Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 of the European Parliament and the Council of 29 April 2004 laying down specific hygiene rules for food of animal origin [2] provides that food business operators may slaughter farmed ratites and certain farmed ungulates at the place of origin with the authorisation of the competent authority, subject to certain conditions.

Commission Regulation (EU) No 206/2010 of 12 March 2010 laying down lists of third countries, territories or parts thereof authorised for the introduction into the European Union of certain animals and fresh meat and the veterinary certification requirements [2] lays down the list of third countries, territories or parts thereof from which live ungulate animals, including those susceptible to bluetongue, may be introduced into the Union and the veterinary certification requirements for such introduction.

The authorisation for importation of live ungulates into or transiting through the Community as provided for in paragraph 1 and the specific animal health conditions provided for in Article 6(3) may be suspended or withdrawn in accordance with the procedure referred to in Article 14(2) where the animal health situation in the authorised third country justifies such suspension or withdrawal.

Imports of live ungulates into the Union are to be allowed only if the authorised third country provides the guarantee that the animals come from a disease-free territory, in accordance with the basic general criteria listed in Annex II to Directive 2004/68/EC and into which the entry of animals vaccinated against the diseases listed in that Annex must be prohibited.

Für eine Übergangszeit bis zum 30. Juni 2012 dürfen Sendungen lebender Huftiere in die EU verbracht werden, wenn sie von einer vor dem Inkrafttreten dieser Verordnung ausgestellten Bescheinigung begleitet werden, die den Mustern BOV-X, BOV-Y, OVI-X, OVI-Y oder RUM gemäß Anhang I Teil 2 der Verordnung (EU) Nr. 206/2010 vor der Änderung durch die vorliegende Verordnung entspricht. For a transitional period until 30 June 2012, consignments of live ungulates accompanied by a certificate issued before the date of entry into force of this Regulation in accordance with the models BOV-X, BOV-Y, OVI-X, OVI-Y or RUM set out in Part 2 of Annex I to Regulation (EU) No 206/2010 before the amendments introduced by this Regulation may continue to be introduced into the Union.

Section III of Annex III to Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 provides that food business operators may slaughter farmed ratites and certain farmed ungulates at the place of origin with the authorisation of the competent authority subject to certain conditions.
