Mit Schreiben vom 17. Juli 2002 forderte die Kommission von Spanien Informationen über die von der Regionalregierung von Kastilien-León von 2000 bis 2002 gewährten Beihilfen für den Steinkohlenbergbau unter Angabe der begünstigten Unternehmen, der Höhe und des Gegenstands der Beihilfen sowie deren Einstufung entsprechend den in der Entscheidung Nr. 3632/93/EGKS festgelegten Kategorien. By letter of 17 July 2002, the Commission asked Spain for information about the aid granted to the coal industry by the Government of Castile-Leon in 2000, 2001 and 2002, indicating the recipients, amounts and purpose of the aid and its classification within the categories laid down in Decision No 3632/93/ECSC.

Nach Prüfung der von Spanien vorgelegten Informationen und angesichts der von Spanien abgegebenen Garantien, wonach die in Artikel 4 vorgesehene maximale Beihilfeintensität bei der Anwendung der Regelung eingehalten wurde, gelangt die Kommission zu dem Schluss, dass die von der autonomen Region Kastilien-León gewährten Beihilfen für die Ausbildung im Bergbau den Wettbewerb nicht verfälschen und auf der Grundlage der oben genannten Verordnung genehmigt werden können. The Commission, after analysing the information submitted by Spain and taking into account the fact that Spain ensured that the maximum aid intensities laid down in Article 4 had been respected when applying the scheme, considers that the aid measures for mining training which the Autonomous Region of Castile-Leon granted will not lead to any distortion of competition and can be allowed on the basis of the abovementioned Regulation.

Spain has now submitted supporting documentation to the Commission as regards the programme in place in the Autonomous Communities of Andalusia, Aragon, Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Madrid, Region of Murcia, Community of Valencia, and the provinces of Salamanca, Segovia and Soria in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León and the province of Tenerife in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands and requested the approval of this programme.
