Das Archiv, mit einem Bestand von zurzeit 12000 Bänden, basiert auf einer Sammlung von Aufzeichnungen aus den Anfängen des Tanztheaters in Bremen (u.a. von Johann Kresnik, Reinhild Hoffmann, Gerhard Bohner, Susanne Linke). [G]

The Archive, which currently holds 12,000 videotapes, is based on a collection of recordings from the early days of dance theatre in Bremen (including work by Johann Kresnik, Reinhild Hoffmann, Gerhard Bohner and Susanne Linke).

Contemporary media art in Germany covers such a wide range of categories that a course of studies could be designed around simply exploring its genealogy: experimental film, expanded cinema (including film installations, multi-projection and film performances), videotapes, video installations, closed-circuit installations, video performances, computer art.

Die nahe liegende Strategie, das Fernsehen als Verbreitungsmedium künstlerisch produzierter Videotapes oder Programme zu nutzen, scheiterte nach ein paar lobenswerten Pionierausstrahlungen der Fernsehgalerie Gerry Schums ("Land Art" 1969, "Self Burial", "TV as a Fireplace", "Artsplace", "Identifications" 1970) im WDR 3 und Südwestfunk Baden-Baden zwangsläufig an der Inkompatibilität der Grundintentionen beider Seiten. The obvious strategy of using the medium of television to broadcast artistically-produced videotapes or programmes inevitably failed after a few praiseworthy pioneering broadcasts by the Gerry Schums television gallery (Land Art in 1969, and Self Burial, TV as a fireplace, Artsplace and Identifications in 1970) on WDR 3 and Südwestfunk Baden-Baden, due to the incompatibility of the basic intentions of the two parties.
