The two East German graduates of the Burg Gliebichstein College of Art and Design in Halle/Saale soon found their own special way of doing things - together they develop products for potential clients like Cor, Jab Anstoetz, Bree, Authentics, Elmarflötotto and others - and they have been making a success of this ever since they first "came out" at the Cologne Furniture Fair 2002.

Einerseits setzen die Pioniere unermüdlich ihr Werk fort und fingen vielerorts an, an Kunsthochschulen zu lehren: darunter Nam June Paik an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Birgit Hein an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig, der österreichische Experimentalfilmer Peter Kubelka an der Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, Maria Vedder und Heinz Emigholz (der in seinen experimentellen Spielfilme "Normalsatz" (1978-81), "Die Basis des Make-up" (1984), "Die Wiese der Sachen" (1986-90) und "Der zynische Körper" (1993-2000) Dokumentation und Inszenierung verbindet) an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste Berlin am Institut für Zeitbasierte Medien, Marcel Odenbach und zur Zeit Klaus vom Bruch an der Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe und Peter Weibel am Institut für neue Medien in Frankfurt am Main, bevor er Direktor des ZKMs wurde. On the one hand, the pioneers pursued their work untiringly and, in many places, began to teach at art academies. Among them are Nam June Paik at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, Birgit Hein at the Brunswick College of Fine Arts, Peter Kubelka, the Austrian experimental film-maker at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, Maria Vedder and Heinz Emigholz (who combines documentary and drama in his experimental feature films Normalsatz (1978-81), Die Basis des Make-up (1984), Die Wiese der Sachen (1986-90) and Der zynische Körper (1993-2000)) at the Institute for Time-Based Media at the Berlin University of the Arts, Marcel Odenbach and currently Klaus von Bruch at the College of Art and Design in Karlsruhe and Peter Weibel, who taught at the Institute for New Media in Frankfurt am Main before becoming director of the ZKM.

The celebrated College of Art and Design at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle, which when established still embodied the intellectual ideals of the German Werkbund, enjoys a special position among training-places.

Für seine Ausbildung wählte Grcic aber nicht Italien, sondern besuchte nach einer Schreinerlehre am Parnham College in Dorset das Royal College of Art in London, die englische Talentschmiede für angewandte und bildende Kunst mit Studenten aus aller Welt. [G]

Grcic chose not to go to Italy for his training, however, but learned the joiner's craft at Parnham College in Dorset and then attended the Royal College of Art in London, where gifted students from all over the world hone their skills in the applied and fine arts.
