Am Ende, in der letzten Folge (Abschied von Schabbach), wird noch einmal ein großes Fest gefeiert, in der Silvester-Nacht zum neuen Jahrtausend, bei dem sich die weit verzweigte Familie trifft: Hermann und Clarissa, die alten und jungen Schabbacher, aber auch die Menschen, die aus der DDR und den ost-europäischen Ländern gekommen sind, ein Spiegel des Wandels zu einer multikulturellen Gesellschaft. In the end, in the last episode "Abschied von Schabbach" (i.e. Farewell to Schabbach), once again a big celebration takes place, in which the extended family is reunited: Hermann and Clarissa, the old and young people of Schabbach, but also the people who have come from East Germany and the Eastern European countries, a mirror of the change to a multicultural society.

Wurde hier früher, standesgemäß, wie man dachte, zu Silvester die Neunte von Beethoven als Signum des tradierten Humanismus aufgeführt, pflanzte Metzmacher, ganz entschieden ein Verfechter der Moderne, an dessen Stelle ein Konzert mit dem anspielungsreichen und durchaus ironisch-provokativ gemeinten Titel "Who is Afraid of 20th Century Music?", in dem Werke zeitgenössischer Komponisten erklangen - jedoch nicht ohne zuvor erläuternd dem Publikum nahe gebracht worden zu sein. If before, in keeping with one's station, as was thought, Beethoven's Ninth used to be performed on New Year's Eve as a seal of traditional humanism, Metzmacher, a very decided advocate of the modern, planted in its place a concert with the allusive and quite ironic-provocative title 'Who is Afraid of 20th Century Music?', and let ring out works of contemporary composers - although not before providing explanatory commentaries which conveyed an appreciation of the pieces to the public.
