[G]	For his first publication, the collection Armonico tributo cioè Sonate di camera comodissime a pocchi ò a molti stromenti, which appeared in 1682 on the occasion of the 1,100 anniversary of the bishopric of Salzburg, he resorted to a trick: all the sonatas can be played with different sets of instruments, from trio to the full complement of instruments (with concertino and ripieno).
	Voraussetzungen dafür waren seine sechsjährige Lehrzeit in Paris (unter anderem bei Jean Baptiste Lully) und sein vom Salzburger Erzbischof gewährter zehnmonatiger Studienaufenthalt in Rom, wo er im Hause Corellis nicht nur dessen Concerti grossi kennen lernte, sondern auch eingeladen wurde, "Concerte" von eigener Komposition aufzuführen, die er dann im Armonico tributo dem Salzburger Erzbischof 1682 aus Dank dedizierte. [G]	This achievement was preceded by six years of education in Paris (under, among others, Jean Baptiste Lully) and the ten months of study in Rome which he was granted by the Archbishop of Salzburg. During this stay Muffat not only became acquainted in the composer's house with Corelli's concerti grossi, but was also invited to perform 'concerts' of his own, which he then gratefully dedicated to the Archbishop of Salzburg in the Armonico tributo of 1682.
