The terrace of the train station there, a delicate 19th-century glass and steel construction, gives a stunning view of the nearby Drachenfels (the rock where Siegfried slew the dragon), Rolandsbogen (an arch being all that remains of Roland's castle) and the picturesque isle of Nonnenwerth, the site of an erstwhile convent, right in the middle of the Rhine.

Zusammen mit Künstlerfreunden wie den Musikern Stefan Askenase, Yehudi Menuhin und dem Pantomimen Marcel Marceau gelang es ihm, den Bau vor dem Abriss zu bewahren. So wurde der Bahnhof zum "Künstlerbahnhof". [G]
