The outcome of these studies and other published literature (9) led to the recommendation that the following tests could be used for the assessment of the in vivo skin corrosivity (10)(11)12)(13): the human skin model test (this method) and the transcutaneous electrical resistance test (see testing method B.40).

A validation study and other published studies have reported that the rat skin transcutaneous electrical resistance (TER) assay (12)(13) is able to reliably discriminate between known skin corrosives and non-corrosives (5)(9).
