In flocks with less than 100 turkeys, where it is not possible to use boot/sock swabs as access to the houses is not possible, they may be replaced by hand drag swabs, where the boot swabs or socks are worn over gloved hands and rubbed over surfaces contaminated with fresh faeces, or if not feasible, by other sampling techniques for faeces fit for the intended purpose.

Falls bei Herden mit weniger als 100 Tieren die Ställe aufgrund des begrenzten Raums nicht begehbar sind und deshalb für die Begehung keine Stiefelüberzieher verwendet werden können, können diese durch dieselbe Art von Stofftupfern ersetzt werden, wie sie für Staubproben verwendet werden und die mit der Hand über Oberflächen mit frischen Fäkalien gewischt werden; ist dies nicht möglich, so sind auch andere für diesen Zweck geeignete Probenahmeverfahren für Fäkalien zulässig.
