      hakke, Sw. hacka, and perh. to E. hew. Cf. {Hew} to cut,
      {Haggle}.]
      1. To cut irregulary, without skill or definite purpose; to
            notch; to mangle by repeated strokes of a cutting
            instrument; as, to hack a post.
