      {Existing}.] [L. existere, exsistere, to step out or forth,
      emerge, appear, exist; ex out + sistere to cause to stand, to
      set, put, place, stand still, fr. stare to stand: cf. F.
      exister. See {Stand}.]

            real being, whether material or spiritual.
