   Lapsed \Lapsed\, a.
      1. Having slipped downward, backward, or away; having lost
            position, privilege, etc., by neglect; -- restricted to
            figurative uses.

      2. Ineffectual, void, or forfeited; as, a lapsed policy of
            insurance; a lapsed legacy.
