   Upokororo \U`po*ko*ro"ro\, n. [From the native Maori name.]
      (Zo[94]l.)
      An edible fresh-water New Zealand fish ({Prototroctes
      oxyrhynchus}) of the family {Haplochitonid[91]}. In general
      appearance and habits, it resembles the northern lake
      whitefishes and trout. Called also {grayling}.

   Grayling \Gray"ling\, n. [From {Gray}, a.]
      1. (Zo[94]l.) A European fish ({Thymallus vulgaris}), allied
            to the trout, but having a very broad dorsal fin; --
            called also {umber}. It inhabits cold mountain streams,
            and is valued as a game fish.

      2. (Zo[94]l.) An American fish of the genus {Thymallus},
            having similar habits to the above; one species ({T.
            Ontariensis}), inhabits several streams in Michigan;
            another ({T. montanus}), is found in the Yellowstone
            region.
