[G] Bert Neumann, who above all finds beauty in the broken and trashy; Anna Viebrock, whose stage worlds offer places of refuge for the abandoned of this world; Katja Haß, always in search of ambiguity; and Barbara Ehnes, who transforms the stage into an opulent fairground of effects.

[G] One outstanding example is Ilija Trojanow's opulent, voluminous novel "Der Weltensammler (The Collector of Worlds)", which whisks the reader away to follow the British travelling scholar Sir Richard F. Burton (1821-1890) on his adventurous journeys through Africa and the Middle East, enabling them to encounter these foreign worlds without laying them bare. Trojanow does not transfigure the fairy tale elements in his story, but preserves and at the same time transforms them.

[G] Panel buildings from the 1960s and 1970s line the once opulent promenade which - in the words of Dresden's writer Thomas Rosenlöcher - now looks like "a concrete memorandum from the Politburo to the Central Committee, poorly camouflaged by fountains".

[G] Compared to the funds available to other sectors, like theatre or opera, that is precious little. However, if one compares the figures with the modest means invested in dance in other places, the facilities seem almost opulent and make it possible to bring contemporary dance to the stage in all its cultural and aesthetic forms more than 180 times and all year round, something that is unique in Germany.

[G] From the ancient texts of the Roman Vitruvius to the varied and opulently-illustrated tracts of the Renaissance and Mannerism, and contemporary positions, which are so diverse as to be almost impossible to survey - they all see themselves less as technical textbooks than as reflections of the relationship between construction, function and aesthetics.
