Auch Clemens Meyer und Paul Ingendaay - beide für den Leipziger Buchpreis in der Sparte "Belletristik" nominiert - richten in ihren erst vor wenigen Monaten erschienenen Debüts noch einmal den Blick zurück auf die Adoleszenz: der eine in "Als wir träumten" auf eine öde, triste und potenziell durch die Gefahr des Abrutschens ins Kriminelle bedrohte Jugend in Ostdeutschland, der andere in "Warum du mich verlassen hast" auf ein westdeutsches Internatsleben, die Geschichte einer "Unbehaustheit", des Verlusts von Familie und Zuhause. Clemens Meyer and Paul Ingendaay - both nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in the Fiction category - also look back to adolescence in their debuts, which were only published a few months ago. In "Als wir träumten (While We Were Dreaming)", Meyer writes about the bleak, dreary East German youth of a group of friends potentially at risk of slipping into criminality; while in "Warum du mich verlassen hast (Why You Left Me)", Ingendaay describes life in a West German boarding school, telling the story of a boy who becomes "homeless", losing his family and all his former certainties.

Bestimmend war das Kino der Fremdheit, das den "Gastarbeiter" als existentiellen Helden sieht wie in Rainer Werner Fassbinders KATZELMACHER (1969) oder in Sohrab Shahid Saless' IN DER FREMDE (1974), der die tristen Lebensumstände eines türkischen Gastarbeiters in Berlin-Kreuzberg beschreibt. [G]

A case in point was the "cinema of alienation", which sees the immigrant worker as an existentialist-type hero as in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's KATZELMACHER (1969) or Sohrab Shahid Saless' IN DER FREMDE (1974, "Far From Home"). The latter explores the dreary day-to-day life of a Turkish worker in Kreuzberg, Berlin.

Und dieses gute Gefühl, nach all der trostlosen EU-Rhetorik, lässt dann doch jeden Teilnehmer die Zusammenkunft junger Journalisten in Brüssel, als großen persönlichen EU-Fortschritt verbuchen. [G]
