[G] That goes for "Timbuktu", too, who took to the streets after dropping out of high school, and Rosi, who after two marriages and abortive studies in computer science joined the troupe, whom she now calls her "family".

[G] Klaus Kordon's brilliant novel, "Krokodil im Nacken" (Plagued by a Crocodile, Beltz & Gelberg, 2002), deserves special mention here. In it, he tells the gripping and authentic life story of the East German Manfred Lenz and his wife, who, like Kordon himself, ends up in an East German secret service prison after an abortive attempt to escape.
