Many other artists have also engaged with these motifs in the past and developed alternatives - actually responding faster and more effectively than the urban planners and social psychologists: contemporary art has taken on a political role, no longer dedicated to the aesthetic decoration of public spaces, but confidently intervening to address specific shortcomings in the urban environment and work out proposals for their rectification.
