[G]	Michael Thalheimer's production of Goethe's Faust II at the German Theatre in Berlin has pinpointed three aspects of Faust: firstly a cool observant Faust at the Emperor's court, where paper money is being invented and human beings created with human hands; then a nervously hopeful Faust caught in the snares of the beautiful Helena, played as a drug-addicted fury; and finally, a Faust who is presented as a megalomaniacal colonialist and who is therefore doomed to destruction.
