The measures may have an effect on trade in view of the importance of the marketing of processed products (which account for a substantial part of agricultural trade: e.g. in 1998 Italy imported agricultural products worth ECU 15,222 billion and exported products worth ECU 9,679 billion; during that year trade in agricultural products within the EU amounted to ECU 128,256 billion in imports and ECU 132,458 billion in exports).

Sieht eine Unionsvorschrift, die die Republik San Marino nach Artikel 7 Absatz 1 des Abkommens in den Bereichen Zoll, gemeinsame Handelspolitik, internationaler Handel mit gefährdeten Arten freilebender Tiere und Pflanzen, Agrarhandel oder Lebensmittelsicherheit, Veterinärmedizin und Pflanzenschutz anwenden muss, vor, dass zur Regelung bestimmter Fälle eine Entscheidung von der Europäischen Kommission getroffen werden muss, so wird diese Entscheidung nach Zustimmung der Europäischen Kommission von den Behörden der Republik San Marino getroffen. In cases where a provision of the Union which the Republic of San Marino is required to apply by virtue of Article 7(1) of the Agreement, in the areas of customs, common commercial policy, market surveillance, health, safety and protection of consumers, international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora, agriculture, or food safety or veterinary or phytosanitary matters, provides that a decision must be taken by the European Commission to resolve certain issues, such decision shall be taken by the authorities of the Republic of San Marino following agreement by the European Commission.
